In the spirit of community and compassion, Garner Sewing Room recently received a heartfelt request from Emma Granowsky, a dedicated social worker at Duke University Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Emma reached out to us with a unique opportunity to give back to the tiniest members of our community—newborns in the NICU—by creating and donating NICU bonding hearts, affectionately known as "Love Hugs." These special hearts aim to foster baby-parent bonding in the midst of medically necessary separation.
Our Response:
Without hesitation, we eagerly embraced the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of NICU families. The Love Hearts Volunteer Event is now in the works, and we invite you to join us in this meaningful endeavor.
How You Can Help:
We're calling on our community to rally together and contribute to this touching initiative. Here are several ways you can get involved:
- Sewing Volunteers: Whether you're an experienced seamstress or just picking up a needle for the first time, your skills are invaluable. Join us in creating these Love Hugs that will provide comfort and connection to NICU families.
- Cutting and Prepping Team: If sewing isn't your forte, we still need your help! Assist in cutting fabric, preparing materials, and organizing supplies to ensure a smooth and efficient production process.
- Logistics and Coordination Support: Every successful event requires a team effort. Volunteer to help with logistics, coordination, and ensuring that our Love Hearts Volunteer Event runs seamlessly.
- Donation Guidelines: Our community appreciates flannel fabric donations for Love Hugs. Please ensure that the flannel material does not contain any depictions of religious or political sayings or symbols. Thank you for your understanding and support!
